9 – Know what you’re downloading
When downloading programs from the Internet, it is not uncommon for unwanted software to download at the same time without your knowledge, such as browser toolbars and add-ons that track your online habits or record your personal information. Be sure to read through each screen when installing programs as they often present you with an opportunity to decline the download of these additional programs during the setup process. Do some research and read reviews of software applications before deciding to download and install them. If you download music, videos, or other content, make sure you are choosing a trusted source in order to avoid inadvertently installing viruses and other malicious software.
